Reserves Report, Rd 7 Tulla 10.4-64  v Sydenham Hillside 8.8-56

Great start to the day, a full squad and no one pulled out.

We started very well, winning the ball out of the middle 4 times out of 6 for the quarter, we kicked the first 3 goals and finished with 5 straight to 1 straight. Hillsides only goal for the quarter was due to a silly error as well. A complete dominance in the first was pleasing. But once again, I lost a player in Jon Brens for the match with an injured quad. So down to 3 on the bench.

Second quarter was tight, both sides were playing hard and fast footy, but our boys were first to the ball and we were using it better than hillside. Kicking 3 goals to hold a 4 goal lead into half time. It was so pleasing to see us play that style of football to half time. But the job certainly was not done. A question about our fitness now was the test.

We came out the same as we did at the start, we played fast footy and shared the ball so well, but hillside also came out and were playing well. It was goal for goal, but they had chipped away out scoring us by a goal, bringing it back to a 3 goal lead for us at 3 quarter time.

The last quarter was a cracker, Hillside came out hard and fast, they attacked their goals furiously and brought it back to a goal, but we steadied and scored a great goal back, the last 10 minutes were tense and we defended so well to hold on to a 9 point win.

It was a great feeling for the boys, and sensational for their confidence, they played with heart all year, but skills and a full team was the difference. If I can hold this team for the rest of the year, we will win many more games. A great day for their seconds and a huge confidence booster.

Rd 7 Under 12 Report, Tulla 4.10-34 v Keilor 1.5-11

1st verses 7th  these games tend to go either of 2 ways, either a blowout or a tough scrappy game. Against Keilor our team experienced the tough scrappy game. Keilors intent was to rough up our players at every opportunity. Not to sure this is a good tactic for u12s football. This was a good learning curve for the team as this is what finals footy will be like, tough and hard. Kicking 10.4 instead of 4.10 is how we need to respond to this kind of tactic and to play our natural game of run and carry football. Under the circumstances it was a good tough win by the boys and we look forward to next week. Go Tulla!

Rd 7 Under 10 Report, Tulla 3.2-20  v Oak park 1.5-11 :-)

The Under 10's ventured to Oak Park to play the other side in our division yet to win a game this season. After last week's narrow loss the team was confident a good showing was possible. This game also celebrated Ryan Johnson's 50th game for the club and as Captain he led us out and took ruck duties in the first quarter.

A solid performance by our midfield allowed us to continually drive the ball forward and 3 shots on goal saw us lead 2.1 to nothing at quarter time. Jack Skidmore controlled the back line and repelled numerous attacks and Georgia Cook, playing on the wing showed enormous grit and determination with fierce tackling and attack on the ball. Shannon Prigg, starting forward, kicked both goals and the endeavour from all players was good.

The second quarter saw Oak Park rally and score 3 behinds but our defence held firm and we moved the ball forward at regular intervals but couldn't finish off many passages of good play.

The 3rd quarter saw Oak Park score a goal but to the teams credit, a free kick out of the centre saw Ethan pass to Jack who drove the ball deep where Oliver Galloway gathered the ball and kicked his first ever and our third goal for the day.

The final quarter saw Oak Park give it everything. A smother on the line by Mark and some solid defending by Shannon, Tyler, Josh and Rory saw us hold on for our first win.

 Goals: S. Prigg 2, O. Galloway 1

Captains: Ryan Johnson (C) and Leigh Cooke (VC)

Best: S Prigg, J Skidmore, R Johnson, R Pixton, O Galloway, G Cook
